Do you know Jesus Christ? Who is Jesus and why is knowing Him important? Please read on to find out... Your LIFE Your TRIAL Your SOLUTION Your REWARD The CATCH Your LIFE Before we talk about Jesus Christ, let's talk about YOU. To this point how have you lived your life? Have you kept the 10 commandments? The standard answer is "of course not, but who has?" Every one of us has lied, and/or stolen, and/or lusted, etc., etc., etc. The definition of SIN is transgression of the law, or breaking the commandments. That means everyone has sinned, or more to the point, everyone IS a sinner. "That's obvious", you say. Sure it is and God agrees. Romans 3:23 says "ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" However, here's where we have been misled. People think that it matters WHICH commandment we break, or HOW OFTEN we break the commandments. We have the false impression that we are good or bad depending on everyone else. That's why the media focuses on all the bad stuff. Very few television shows these days focus on positive messages. TV dramas seem to always involve a murder, sex or both. The news focuses on crime, death and destruction. See, if we focus on the really bad people all the time like the media does, then we feel better about ourselves and think we're really "good"...compared to them. That's where most people make a FATAL mistake. You see God doesn't compare us to other people. He compares us to the law. God says in Matthew 5:48 "Be perfect...as your heavenly father is perfect". Perfect means 100% all the time...no mistakes...no sins...EVER! Think of it this way...imagine the law is a very expensive glass vase that you carry around with you all the time. If you ever drop it, it's broken and worthless. The 10 commandments are just like that vase. If you ever sin, you have broken THE LAW and are a sinner. It doesn't matter HOW you broke it. So how about you? Did you ever drop the vase? Have you ever sinned? If you're like 100% of the rest of us, you answered YES. If so, you've admitted that you've transgressed God's law! If you were to face God on judgment day and He judges you by the standard of the perfection as laid out in Matthew 5:48, do you think you would be found guilty? If you're human you would. Before you get angry, I'm not judging you...I'm just telling you how God says we will all be judged. But you might say "The God I believe in is a loving God and wouldn't punish me". The fact is, there is only ONE TRUE GOD. He made us. We can't just make up a God that fits our lifestyle. So the if the God you believe in wouldn't punish you, your God doesn't exist. Your TRIAL We've just established that you have transgressed the law. Forget about other people, because you know now that it doesn't matter how other people behave. We are judged based on the commandments and NOT other people. We've also establish that you've broken the law. But did you also know that you already have a trial date set? That's right, your date is set and you have to appear. Hebrews 9:27 says "It is appointed to men once to die and then the judgment." Are you thinking, "No big deal. I still think God wouldn't be too hard on me. I really am a pretty good person." Really? Let's say you ARE a pretty good person and you only sin 5 times a day. Or say you're REALLY good and you only sin 2 times a day. That's 730 sins per year and at 33 years of age that's over 24,000 sins. Imagine going in front of a judge having broken the law 24,000 times! Exodus 34:7 says "He does not leave the guilty unpunished." What does punishment mean? Luke 12:24 says He has power to cast into hell. But God wouldn't send you to hell, right? 2Peter 2:4 says "God did not spare the angles who sinned, but cast them down to hell." SO where would YOU go, Heaven or Hell? Not so sure now? If He sent sinning angles to hell, don't you think He would send you? The fact is everyone is a sinner, and as sinners, we are powerless to save ourselves. So you see, we all have a trial date set and we are all guilty pf a crime punishable by death. God loves us, but yet He must sentence us all to hell. What's up with that? Sounds like a real dilemma, for US that is. Quite true! When we look at God, we discover that He is merciful. But on the other hand God is just so He must punish sin...just like a judge. Say you went into the courtroom with those 22,000 illegal acts, would the judge let you go? Of course not. He is sworn to uphold the law and punish you for the good of society, and if he's a GOOD judge, that's just what he'll do. WOW! What a problem. God loves us (1John 4:8 says "God is love.") but He must punish us. If we're all doomed, why even tell us. Because God has a solution!!!
God solved this problem in the person of
JESUS CHRIST!!! Your SOLUTION So who is Christ and how can He solve this problem? Jesus Christ is not only a man, but He IS GOD...God in the flesh. John 1:1,14 says "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word WAS God. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." So how did He solve our problem? Christ lived a sinless life for 33 years and then gave Himself over as a sacrifice to be killed on the cross. This sacrifice was for you...it was payment for your sins...ALL of them. With 24,000 sins by 33 the only thing that can save you (and me) is the precious, sinless blood of Jesus Christ, ironically a man that lived for 33 years and NEVER committed one sin! The dreadful part is the fact that Christ had to die in order to shed the precious blood which has cleansing power over sin because of its purity. HE TOOK YOUR PUNISHMENT!!! That's right...Christ lived a sinless life on earth and died on the cross of Calvary just so you and I might be cleansed! INCREDIBLE!!! Yes my friend, He REALLY DOES love you that much. Imagine you're standing in the courtroom having been found guilty of breaking those 24,000 laws and the judge sentences you death by lethal injection. As you scream "No please" Someone bursts into the courtroom and shouts, let that person go judge! I give my life so they might be free. The judge motions for the guards to unshackle you. As you run from the courtroom in case he changes his mind, you turn to catch a glimpse of the man who will be punished in your place. Amazingly, he smiles at you and instead of being terrified because He is going to die, he is completely happy because you're going free! What kind incredible human being is this? Great question! Now you understand why Christians always say "Jesus loves you."
Your REWARD Guess what, since you we're completely exonerated of ALL of your sins, In God's eyes, you are now sinless and deserve a reward. Your reward? It's HEAVEN! Did you know that Heaven is a FREE gift given to you by Christ? That's right! Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life". Many people think we can earn our way into heaven or get there just by being good. Not true! Ephesians 2:8-9 says "For it is by grace that we have been saved through faith (in Christ) and...not by works so that no man can boast". Bet you thought people get into Heaven by being good. Well since Christ died for all of us so that we may go to heaven, that's where we're all going, right? Well unfortunately, no. We have to actually accept the free gift given by Christ. That is where faith comes in. Notice one again that Ephesians 2:8-9 says "we have been saved through FAITH". If you are offered a gift, the only way it remains a gift is if you receive it, no strings attached. Accepting the gift from Christ means trusting in Him alone for salvation. That's kind of like trusting in a parachute. You can believe it's there but would you actually trust it with your life by jumping out of a plane? It is not enough to know Jesus, or to believe he exists, but you must trust that He will save your life. Christ said in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". Friend, Christ and Christ ALONE can save you from the sentence that WILL be rendered at your trial. The CATCH There is just one catch...once we die, our choice is made. We must go into the courtroom with the pardon in our hand or there is no pardon. We are hopeless, helpless sinners approaching death. Christ already stepped in and offered to take our punishment. Are you going to wait like so many others thinking you have more time, then suddenly you find that you waited too long. You're standing in court and having been found guilty knowing that your sentence awaits, you turn to look for Christ, the man that holds your pardon. Oh, he's there in the courtroom alright, but he's sobbing! Your heart sinks because you know what he's about to say to you. "I'm sorry" He says softly "but it's too late. You waited too long." "NO PLEASE!!!" you scream as you realize the temporary pleasure you received in life as you rejected Christ cost you eternity with God in heaven! God No!!! Please!!! But wait! Look around. You're still here! You still have time! It's NOT too late.......yet!
Call to Him! Tell Him you want the gift. Tell Him you KNOW that you are guilty and deserve the punishment but you know He can save you and that you are sorry for your crime.
